Story

Achiote Ecuador – Cuisine is located in La Mariscal; a patrimonial neighborhood of the city of Quito. The house where the restaurant operates has a cultural and architectural heritage of significant wealth for the city.

This place is great if you are vegetarian but still want to try traditional Ecuadorian food! The staff are very friendly and speak excellent English. I was served by Pierre, and he was brilliant - he even booked me a taxi when my plans to get home fell through. Great atmosphere, would definitely go back.

Great Restaurant Terrific food and service. We had the coconut shrimp and the beef tenderloin. Both are excellent but I’d recommend the beef more. They make you feel so welcome

Best Locro in Quito We went here after a long day of touring, and we were so pleased that they sat us without a reservation and had a live local musician playing. Our service was quick and efficient which was great for 2 weary travelers. We thought this was the best locro de papa we had in Ecuador (this is out of nearly 10). Enjoyed the sauces they provided at the beginning of our meal and the taste from the kitchen. The restaurant is nice inside as well with nice decor. Our waiter ordered us a taxi upon leaving, another nice touch.

Fantastic authentic food We had our best meal in Ecuador at this restaurant. Our waiter Andres was prompt, helpful, and provided excellent service throughout the (very large) meal. We had the potato soup, achiote symphony ceviche mix, grilled fish as a main, and a traditional dessert with figs soaked in cane syrup and local soft cheese. Every dish was well balanced, portions were very generous, and it was so nice to have such a high quality meal that truly felt authentic. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone hoping to have a delicious Ecuadorian meal. Would return again in a heartbeat but sadly we were only in town for one night!

DELICIOUS LOCAL CULINARY DELIGHT I had one night in Quito and a whole city to discover. I spent most of it in this restaurant. The last minute booking at Achiote turned out to be a serendipitous delight. The restaurant was only two minutes from the JW Marriott and took us into the culinary delights of Ecuador. This family run establishment has transformed it's generational home into a dining experience to take you into the delicious flavours of South America. The restaurant is lively, warm and welcoming with a 60 year old magnolia tree as a . The food was absolutely mouth watering delicious. We loved it so much we asked for cooking lessons! So the next day I was booked in and learning how to create two meals we had eaten! My cooks tour of the kitchen and working parts of the restaurant confirmed how passionate the entire family and their long term staff are about creating beautiful, flavourful and fresh meals for anyone who joins them for dining. I felt honoured to be able to partake in recreating meals we delighted on the night before and only wished I could stay longer, learn more and eat more. Well worth the time.

Great Quito restaurant We were staying nearby and wanted a nice place to celebrate my wife's birthday. Achiote fit the bill perfectly. The food was primarily Ecuadorian and wonderfully prepared. Our waitress was excellent, taking her time to explain the dishes and offering subtle recommendations. My wife had the lamb stew and I had a chicken dish both of which were delicious. The restaurant itself has a very pleasant interior and despite being nearly full it wasn't too loud. Highly recommended.
